The ANITI Days are an annual event showcasing ANITI’s advancements in AI research and applications, fostering collaboration between academia and industry through presentations, workshops, and discussions on trustworthy and impactful AI innovations.
Explainability has become a widely debated and essential aspect of AI, crucial for its growth and acceptance. While AI systems often deliver accurate and efficient solutions, these solutions can be non-intuitive or significantly different from established practices in certain fields. When users cannot understand the rationale behind these solutions, they may resist implementation.
Moreover, planning and scheduling tools frequently face challenges with scalability in large solution spaces, making it difficult to grasp both the outcomes (‘What’) and the reasoning behind them (‘Why’). The TUPLES project addresses these challenges by enhancing explainability in these tools, aiming to build trust and create transparent, reliable decision-making systems.
A group of project members showcased two posters at the event, presenting its goals and progress to the large audience.
• Poster 1: The TUPLES PROJECT
Authors: Sylvie Thiebaux, Florent Teichteil Koenigsbuch
Overview of the project: it focuses on hybrid methods combining reasoning and learning to overcome limitations of traditional AI models in areas like adaptability and scalability.
o Decision-Focused Learning and an example use case: the Energy Production Management Under Uncertainty.
o Learning Planning Heuristics with a focus on Innovative techniques like GOOSE planners for planning heuristics and decision-focused learning. Spot on the International Planning Competition.
•Poster 2: Explainability in Planning and Scheduling
Authors: Ryma Boumazouza, Rebecca Eifler, Guillaume Povéda
The second poster tackles the critical challenge of explainability in large solution spaces, addressing both the outcomes (“What”) and the underlying reasoning (“Why”).
A heartfelt thank-you to all authors and the ANITI team for organizing these insightful and engaging days
